Our Story in Pictures
Representation matters when you can see it up close.
Some of ONA's earliest inspiration came from moments like these: our family showing up, cheering loudly, and watching our girls meet athletes whose journeys reflect pieces of their own identity. From Nigerian stars to players across the African diaspora, these encounters remind our children that there is no single path to the highest levels of the game. Sometimes seeing someone who looks like you, shares your heritage, or carries a familiar story makes the dream feel a little closer.

These moments capture Bisi and family supporting women athletes of African descent playing, or who played, in the NWSL — including Asisat Oshoala, Deborah Abiodun, Gift Monday, Onyeka Gamero, Rachel Kundinaji, Temwa Chawinga, and Princess Marfo.
On the night of Asisat Oshoala's final game for Bay FC before her transfer to Al Hilal, she gifted Bisi a brand new jersey, recognizing the Matthews family as among her most devoted supporters. That jersey has a permanent home with us. Naija no dey carry last.

"My graduation from high school yesterday marked a major milestone in my journey. It was a day filled with joy and gratitude for my family as we reflected on how far we have come and grown together. We give all the glory to God. My family has been my foundation; the people I have always leaned on to lift me up, encourage me, and push me through high school. As I begin my next journey in college, I know I will continue to lean on their love and support. This is only the beginning of many great milestones to come."
Ayomide Olatunji · Graduation, 2026Ayomide Olatunji grew up in the Nigerian diaspora, played football, led his class, and graduated as Valedictorian and Class President of EPIC Academy's Class of 2026. He is now a freshman at Harvard University and an ONA Ambassador. His story is proof of what this village is building toward: young Nigerian athletes who compete on the field and excel in the classroom, and who carry their heritage with pride at every level of their journey.
